“Thank you very much. It is wonderful to know that we are appreciated for our contribution to the school and college,” said Van der Merwe. Her line manager, Professor Shawren Singh, Head of the Department of Information Systems, has this to say: “She has gone beyond her duty to ensure that students are helped, as evidenced by testimonies from students. As CSET management, we appreciate her dedication to student service and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her on her splendid performance. I am privileged to work with Ronel. She has a contagious energy that propels our school forward. In these trying times, she is truly a beacon to our students.”

“Professor Kemlall Ramdass is living the CSET values by providing excellent service to our students,” said his line manager, Dr Ndivhuwo Ndou, head of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department. “On many occasions he has provided solutions, not only to his students, but to many departments at Unisa. As a department, we received several emails from students showing their appreciation for his support in teaching and research activities.

“He currently serves as an associate director in quality development in the School of Engineering. He also provides support to the Department and School of Engineering and serves on many committees in the Department. What we know about Professor Ramdass is that he is committed to his functions. Many people in the School of Engineering call him Dr Quality because he provides quality work and leads the quality committee at School level. We strongly support his reward at this level.”

“CSET is proud to have dedicated and hard-working employees like you. We give this award to high-calibre staff members who demonstrate excellence in the service of our students. We hope you will continue to be the light that shines through the college and the university at large,” said Dr Mukondeleli Kanakana-Katumba, CSET Deputy Executive Dean, in congratulating both winners.

Nominations for recognising and encouraging excellence at CSET remain open. All you need do is to send evidence in a short paragraph to the CSET Deputy Executive Dean to consider any staff member who goes beyond the call of duty to provide service to students, the college, and the university at large.
